Goheon Market on Geoje Island (South Korea)

For a year, I lived on Geoje Island (South Korea). There was a small traditional market on Goheon street – they sell fresh seafood. Some sea creatures were completely new to me – and many times I approached the seller with the question “oddokE mogoyO?” – which means “how to eat it?” in Korean. The responses usually combined verbal and non-verbal parts; if I was lucky, I was able to decipher the non-verbal part. I was always interested in semiotics, but this experience brought another, practical dimension to my interest…
